What made you start your journey as a serial entrepreneur?

It really all started because of my love for Ibiza and parties. I came to Ibiza at such a young age and going to the clubs made me realise this is what I wanted to do professionally. I had no entrepreneurial skills, however knew it was the lifestyle I wanted. When I was old enough, I went to Gran Canaria to gain as much experience and in any type of job – from street promoter to glass collector, waiter to runner. Even before coming to Spain, I fulfilled a range of jobs, from hairdresser to bricklayer. Learning everything business, inside and out, was my primary focus for the entrepreneurial side to follow which in the end came organically to me. Back then, I wanted a place like Ku Club and 40 years later, I achieved just that. If your goals aren't big enough, it isn't worth it.

How did your love for parties start?

When I was 15 years-old and before my Ibiza days, I would host boat parties which really started the love. My mum actually really inspired me and would say, "You’re a popular kid at school; the kids would come to your party."

Do you feel your experience in these different fields encouraged you to become a successful entrepreneur?

Yes, 100%. The experience on-and-off the street (PR, pub crawls, boat parties) gave me great experience to not accept "no" in life, plus invaluable people skills, including how to convince people. Interacting with different nationalities and backgrounds also gave me an open mind and outlook in life. I'm now a business owner who employes around 1,200 staff and so these people skills were undoubtedly critical to my success. Every year we receive so many applicants whilst also lucky enough to retain a lot staff. I feel very thankful for my team.

What drew you to Ibiza?

Wham (the boyband) had a music video clip shot in Club Tropicana. As soon as I saw it, I told my mum, I want to be there. She mentioned it was filmed in Ibiza and so of course I went on to visit that same Club Tropicana. Though I didn't see George Michael there, I did meet Tony Pike who became a life-long friend. From then, I would regularly return to Ibiza, back when there weren't all these big clubs and parties were in luxury villas. Oh, and I did end up meeting George Michael, just years later and at an Eastenders Christmas party! On my 50th birthday, I also received a lovely voice note from George Michael's then-partner.

How would you describe Ibiza in three words?

I don’t think I can, it encompasses too many emotions. If I had to choose, it would be 'unique', 'time divine' and 'love'. In life, I’ve been really fortunate to travel around the world, however there still isn’t any place like Ibiza, regardless if you’re 18 or 80 years-old. It’s a place you can dance and nobody cares. Everyone that comes to Ibiza has one common denominator and that’s to have a good time. It's the only place I know where people start cheering on the plane when they land; the emotions are insane. Everyone talks about the big clubs and brands, but Ibiza is the brand and what everyone is really coming for.

What are your tips for people wanting to start a business in Ibiza?

Very deep pockets! Do not go into business if you can't afford to lose the money in the first place. Everyone works to make money, however you must go into business to foremost make you happy, and the money will follow. More than anything, it’ll grant you a happy life.

What are you looking forward to in 2024?

We are excited for another beach opening (international) which will further expand the O Beach brand, globally. Of course, we're looking forward to the Ibiza season and I’m especially excited to spend the whole summer with my ‘Ibiza family’. In winter, I tend jet to England to catch up with my actual family and then back to Ibiza in the summer, with my party (Ibiza) family. I really look forward to this cycle each year - it allows me to meet new people, whilst also visit my teams and to see how our new staff are getting along. It can truly change someone's life when they come to on work on the island; initially as an opportunity to work and experience Ibiza, however to also grow as people. This is the part of my job that I'm really quite proud of.
